In Memoriam: Paul Chapin

1938-2015

The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) mourns the July 1, 2015 death of Paul Chapin, former ACL president (1977).  The language sciences lost a truly valued defender and friend on July 1, 2015, with the death of Paul Gipson Chapin from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, in Tucson, Arizona.

Li Sheng receives 2015 Association for Computation Linguistics Lifetime Achievement Award

During its 53rd annual meeting in Beijing, China (July 26-31, 2015), the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) awarded its 2015 ACL Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof. Li Sheng.

Li Sheng (Chinese: 李生; Li is the family name; born in 1943), is a professor at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in China. Prof. Li began research on Chinese-English machine translation 30 years ago in 1985, making him one of the first Chinese scholars in this field.

Six 2014 ACL Fellows Named

Call for Bids: ACL 2017 - 55th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics

The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) invites proposals to host the 55th Annual Meeting of the ACL, to be held in the Americas in June, July, or August 2017.

At this time, we seek preliminary draft proposals from prospective bidders in the Americas. Promising bidders will be asked to provide additional information for the final selection.

Call for Bids: 15th Meeting of the European Chapter of the ACL

The European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (EACL) invites proposals to host the 2017 EACL conference, to be held in Europe, the Middle East or Africa (EMEA) in Spring (preferably April) 2017. From 2014 EACL takes place every 3 years. The 2017 conference will be the 15th meeting of the EACL.

We seek draft proposals from prospective bidders. Based on an evaluation of the draft proposals received, promising bidders will be asked to provide additional information for the final selection.
