The Computational Linguistics Fall School is held biennially under the auspices of
the German Linguistic Society's Special Interest Group on Computational Linguistics (DGfS-CL). It is aimed at Bachelor- and Master-level students of computational linguistics or related subjects (e.g. computer science, formal linguistics) who wish to broaden their knowledge of techniques and methods used in natural language processing, with a particular focus on innovative and emerging methods not traditionally taught in standard degree programmes.
All courses are taught in English and students enrolled at a European University can obtain ECTS credits.

The courses offered are:

- Introduction to weighted string and tree automata, Thomas Hanneforth
- Multivariate Analysis, Gero Kunter
- Opinion Mining, Melanie Siegel
- Cultural Text Mining, Caroline Sporleder

The courses can be taken separately or together. Each course consists of ten 90-minute lessons and is typically a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises.
The fall school also comprises two evening lectures and a social programme.

The school is organised by Trier University's Department of Computational Linguistics and Digital Humanities. Trier lays claims to being the oldest city in Germany and is renowned both for its Roman monuments (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its beautiful location in the Moselle valley. The cities of Luxembourg, Strasbourg and Metz are within easy reach as is the Völklinger Hütte Ironworks (another World Heritage Site).
