Computational Linguistics is seeking a new editor-in-chief | Nomination deadline: 20 December, 2023

Computational Linguistics is the longest running premier journal in the areas of natural language processing and computational linguistics. It is an open-access, electronic-only journal with a high impact factor, published by the MIT Press for the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). Computational Linguistics achieved an impact factor of 9.3 in 2022, an improvement from 7.778 in 2021.

The editor-in-chief is responsible for the overall operation of the journal. It is an unpaid position, but ACL provides financial assistance for hiring an editorial assistant to help with administration. The journal uses the Open Journal System (OJS) manuscript processing platform.

Previous editors-in-chief of the journal have been James Allen, Julia Hirschberg, Robert Dale, Paola Merlo, and Hwee Tou Ng. Editors-in-chief of the preceding American Journal of Computational Linguistics were David Hayes and George Heidorn.

The person seeking to be appointed editor-in-chief must be a competent administrator with a commitment to timeliness, have a vision for the future of the journal, and adhere to the policy of diversity and inclusivity promoted by ACL. The appointment is for five years, starting on 15 January, 2024.
