*ALEXA PRIZE SOCIALBOT GRAND CHALLENGE 5: APPLICATIONS DUE OCT 5TH*
Don’t miss your chance to join the Alexa Prize community as a participant in our next conversational AI competition: SocialBot Grand Challenge 5! The grand challenge is focused on creating a SocialBot, an Alexa skill that can converse coherently and engagingly with humans on popular topics and news events for 20-minutes, and achieve an average rating of at least 4.0/5.0. Each participating team will receive a $250,000 research grant, Alexa-enabled devices, free Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing services to support their research and development efforts, access to the CoBot conversational AI toolkit, and most importantly the ability to access real world users at scale to test and evolve their innovations in conversational AI.

This year, in an effort to sharpen the focus on science and to move the needle on conversational AI, university teams will not only compete for prizes related to overall performance, but also for a separate award for scientific invention and innovation.
*About the program:*
The Alexa Prize SocialBot Grand Challenge – our multimillion-dollar university challenge to advance human-computer interaction – will be held for the fifth time since launching in 2016. We will begin accepting applications on July 6, 2022. Participating teams will create socialbots that can converse coherently and engagingly for 20 minutes with humans on a range of current events and popular topics such as entertainment, sports, politics, technology, and fashion while striving to earn a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. We have made significant progress towards this goal over the last several years, but would like to invite you to help advance the state-of-the-art in this challenge selected university teams will receive a $250,000 research grant, Alexa-enabled devices, free Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support their development efforts, and access to other tools, data, and Alexa team support.
*Overall Performance Prize*: For the three teams that build the SocialBot with the highest overall performance, the first-place team will win $250,000, the second-place team will win $50,000, and the third-place team will win $25,000. These prizes will be paid directly to the students on each winning team.
*Scientific Invention and Innovation Prize*: For the three teams that demonstrate the most scientific invention and innovation throughout the competition, the first-place team will win $250,000, the second-place team will win $50,000, and the third-place team will win $25,000. Applications must be submitted by October 5, 2022 and will be reviewed and evaluated based on: potential scientific contribution to the field, technical merit of the approach, novelty of the idea, and the team's ability to execute against their plan.
