VISA Applications to Enter the United States

If you will require a visa to enter the USA, please contact Priscilla Rasmussen, the ACL Business Manager, at acl@aclweb.org. To write an individualized letter of invitation, she will need:
  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • If you have an accepted paper, in what part of the conference and what is the exact title of the paper
She will send, by email, a signed Word version of the invitation to you. If you need a hardcopy (other than printing the letter she sends), please let her know.

Transportation between PDX and the Portland Marriott

Portland's airport code is PDX and is located 12 miles from the conference hotel. Transportation options between PDX and Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront include:
  • Public Transportation
    • $2.30 with travel time of ~50 minutes
    • MAX Red Line from PDX to Morrison/SW 3rd Ave MAX Station then 10 minute walk to hotel. See walking directions from the MAX station to the hotel here.
    • Can achieve a slightly shorter walk by transfering to the green line at the Gateway/NE 99th Ave TC MAX Station and taking the green line to the City Hall/SW 5th & Jefferson St MAX Station. See walking directions from the MAX station to the hotel here. See multiple Trimet options here.
  • Airport shuttle service
    • $14 one-way with travel time of ~35 minutes
  • Taxi
    • ~$30 one-way with travel time of ~20 minutes

Transportation between PDX and the Student Dormitories

Trimet Instructions for taking the Max lightrail train from the Portland International Airport to the nearest station to the dorms here. That station is the PSU/SW 5th & Mill St MAX Station, which is within easy walking distance to both dorms.

Portland's Public Transportation

Portland is well-know for its comprehensive public transportation system. Plus, public transportation in most of downtown Portland is completely free. This area is called the Free Rail Zone and you can find a detailed map here.
