I am a Computational Linguist and Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. My research lies at the intersection of Natural Language Processing, AI fairness, and low-resource language technologies, with a strong focus on Arabic and its dialects and multilingual representation learning. I currently lead research projects on developing Arabic automated essay scoring systems, evaluating geo-cultural bias in generative AI, and exploring ways to support kids with dyslexia in Arabic. I have contributed to several benchmark datasets and shared tasks in Arabic NLP, including MADAR and the Qatar Linguistic Map, and regularly collaborate on building equitable and inclusive AI systems. My recent work also explores the integration of generative AI tools in educational settings to support novice programmers and reduce achievement gaps.
