Election of 2019 will take place in the fall. The opening positions are VP-elect and member at-large.

The new member at-large will come from the EMEA region, replacing Jennifer Foster, the current SIG Chair. However, according to the resolution passed on May 7[1], the new member at-large will not be a SIG chair. Instead, as stated in the resolution, the roles for the members-at-large will be assigned by the current ACL President on an as-needed basis, and may change throughout their terms. These roles will not require specialized knowledge beyond that of a well-informed, active member of the ACL community.

Nominating Committee of 2019

The Nominating Committee consist of three past ACL presidents and six existing fellows. The procedure for composing the Nominating Committee can be found here[2].

The Nominating Committee of 2019 consist of the following members:

  • Three ACL Past Presidents:
    • Pushpak Bhattacharyya (male, APAC) (2017-2019) (General Chair of the committee, 2019)
    • Joakim Nivre (male, EMEA) (2018-2020) (Exec nominations subchair of 2019)
    • Marti Hearst (female, Americas) (2019-2021) (DSA subchair of 2019)
  • Six existing ACL Fellows:
    • Julia Hirschberg (female, Americas) (2017-2019) (Fellows selection subchair of 2018)
    • Yuji Matsumoto (male, APAC) (2017-2019) (Exec nominations subchair of 2018)
    • Eduard Hovy (male, Americas) (2018-2020) (Fellows selection subchair of 2019)
    • Candace Sidner (female, Americas) (2018-2020) (LTA subchair of 2019)
    • Lauri Karttunen (male, America) (2019-2021)
    • Mark Steedman (male, EMEA) (2019-2021)

in 2019, ACL will award the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for the first time. Both LTA and DSA awardees will be announced during ACL2019 conference.

Other Committees and Leadership Roles

In the end of last year, ACL Exec approved the Process for Ad Hoc ACL Leadership Roles. There are the following committees and leadership roles So far:

In addition, Rada Mihalcea, the ACL VP-elect, is leading a committee searching for the Equity Director.

Exec Meetings in 2019

The ACL Exec had two exec meetings every year previously, including a teleconference early in a year and an in-person meeting during the ACL conference. Last year, we added another online exec meeting at the end of the year, and we will follow this practice this year. That's to say, we will have three exec meetings in 2019:
