After the successful launch of the Economics and Natural Language Processing (ECONLP) workshop at ACL 2018 in Melbourne, Australia (https://www.aclweb.org/anthology/W18-31.pdf), and the follow-up events at EMNLP-IJCNLP 2019 in Hong Kong, China (https://aclanthology.org/D19-51.pdf) and EMNLP 2021 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (https://aclanthology.org/volumes/2021.econlp-1/), we will be running the fourth edition of ECONLP @ LREC-COLING 2024 in Torino, Italy, May 25, 2024.

ECONLP addresses the increasing relevance of NLP for regional, national and international economy, both in terms of already operational language technology products and systems, and newly emerging methodologies and techniques reflecting the requirements at the intersection of economics, finance and NLP. The focus of the workshop will be on how NLP impacts business relations and procedures, economic transactions, and the roles of human and computational actors involved in commercial and financial activities. For more information visit the workshop’s webpage @ https://lt3.ugent.be/econlp/

Two Major Workshop Tracks:

• Long (8 pages) and short papers (4 pages) whose thematic focus lies in the intersection of economy, finance and NLP. Long papers should report original, solid and substantial research results, whereas short papers typically contain preliminary results, smaller focused studies, work in progress, etc. which might benefit from feedback from the community audience.

• For the first time ever in the history of EcoNLP, we will run a Shared Task on "Cross-lingual Classification of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Themes and Topics". This task will provide the NLP community with data sets in multiple languages (English, French, and simplified Chinese) for CSR news analysis and will shed light on the feasibility of cross-lingual CSR theme detection. The community will also gain insights into fine-grained topic classification for two large CSR themes, viz. Environment (ENV) and Labor and Human Rights (LAB). The papers (6 pages) will be published in the Shared Task Track of the workshop. For more information visit the Shared Task’s webpage @ https://sites.google.com/view/csr-theme-recognition

• Authors are requested to use the official LREC-COLING 2024 templates (https://lrec-coling-2024.org/authors-kit/) for submissions and finals. Page limits exclude additional pages for references, ethical considerations, conflict-of-interest, as well as data and code availability statements.
