Call for papers Special issue on Natural Language Generation (NLG) for Spoken Dialogue Systems (SDS) Journal of Dialogue & Discourse Language generation for dialogue requires sophistication in modeling the context of the dialogue, as well as methods that are sensitive to the rhetorical structure of a turn, and to the requirement that turns in dialogue are typically incremental and structured as oral, rather than written language. We therefore especially invite submissions which address these gaps, whether by introducing novel statistical or neural approaches or by leveraging data to improve natural language generation for dialogue using a more traditional architecture.Ê Dialogue and Discourse (D&D) is the first peer-reviewed free open access journal dedicated exclusively to work that deals with language "beyond the sentence". As of April 2017, D&D has published 57 papers, and the journalÕs h-index is 16. D&D is endorsed by SIGdial, SemDial, and AMLaP. D&D is indexed by Scopus and the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Submissions are made via the online submission system atÊhttp://www.dialogue-and-discourse.org/submission.shtml Authors are required to indicate if a submission is an extended version of one or more previously published conference paper(s); simultaneous submission to another venue is prohibited. Submissions will undergo rigorous peer-review with the target timeline below. Once accepted and finalised, papers will appear online immediately, as part of the current issue. * deadline for submissionsÊ Ê ÊÊJanuary 20, 2018 * decision madeÊ Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊMay 1st, 2018 * revisions dueÊ Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊJune 1st, 2018 * issue publishedÊ Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê July, 2018 Dialogue and Discourse Editors Issue Editors: Verena Rieser (Heriot-Watt University) Marilyn Walker (University of California Santa Cruz) Vera Demberg (Saarland University) Editor In Chief: David Schlangen Associate Editors: Vera Demberg, Saarland University Barbara Di Eugenio, University of Illinois at Chicago Raquel Fernandez, ILLC, University of Amsterdam Jonathan Ginzburg, UniversitŽ Paris-Diderot (Paris 7) Pat Healey, Queen Mary University London Massimo Poesio, Uni Essex, United Kingdom David Schlangen, Bielefeld University Manfred Stede, University of Potsdam, Germany Amanda Stent, Bloomberg LP Maite Taboada, Simon Fraser University, Canada David R Traum, University of Southern California, United States Full editorial board at:Êhttp://www.dialogue-and-discourse.org/editors.shtml
