2026Q3 Reports: SIGBioMed

MEMBERSHIP

SIGBIOMED is ACL's special interest group for Biomedical Natural Language Processing that encompasses all sublanguages related to health, ranging from biology to clinical language in all registers and health literacy levels. Membership currently stands at 240, up from 238 in 2025.

ORGANIZATION

The Chair, Vice-Chair and the Secretary were elected for 3-year term in July 2025. In compliance with the BioNLP constitution, the elected officers will serve for 3 years.

WORKSHOP

We have two workshops in 2026: BioNLP 2026 @ ACL 2026 has about 100 registered attendees (about 60 in-person). The CL4Health workshop on patient-oriented language processing at LREC 2026 continues to be met with great enthusiasm. The attendees unanimously voted for continuing this specialized workshop annually.
