Report for SIGMOL, Mathematics of Language, May 2008 Gerhard Jaeger

Our last bi-annual meeting, MoL-10, took place July 28-30, 2007, at the University of California at Los Angeles.

23 papers were submitted of which 13 were selected for the regular program. The 50th anniversary of the publication of Chomsky's "Syntactic Structures" was commemorated with a special session, where Geoffrey Pullum (Edinurgh) and Marcus Tomalin (Cambridge/UK) gave invited talks.

Preproceedings containing all contributed papers were published as technical report of the UCLA Department of Linguistics. It is planned to publish postproceedings as a special issue of the Journal of Logic, Language and Information (JoLLI); preparations are under way.

Gerhard Jaeger (University of Bielefeld, Germany) became president of SIGMOl in July 2007 (the election had taken place in 2006). In April 2008, new elections were conducted. Marcus Kracht (UCLA) was elected vice president/president elect.

In January 2008, SIGMOL launched its new website. For that purpose, we leased the URL http://www.molweb.org for five years. The lease was payed by the Faculty of Linguistics of Bielefeld University.

In May 2008, SIGMOL decided (via an email ballot) to have its next meeting in summer 2009 in Bielefeld. It is currently under discussion whether this meeting will be collocated with the conference "Logical Aspects of Computational Linguistics".

A draft for a constution of SIGMOL is currently under discussion and will most likely be adopted within the next weeks.
