Promoting Diversity and Avoiding Bias
The ACL is committed to promoting equity and diversity at all levels of the organization. We believe an important step towards a more inclusive community is to raise awareness of the ways in which stereotypes and unconscious biases can undermine the goal of equal opportunities for all our members and point to ways in which this can be avoided. We think the resources listed below can help us achieve this goal, and we encourage all our members to use them, especially those who are involved in nomination and selection committees. We welcome suggestions for further resources that can be added.
- Two videos on unconscious bias:
- Gender Bias in Academe: An annotated Bibliography of Important Recent Studies
- Implicit Association Tests (IAT) to check your own implicit biases
