EACL 2014

The conference organisation is progressing well, with the first call for papers already distributed. The long paper deadline is 18 October 2013 and the short paper deadline is 6 January 2014. The EACL Chair encouraged the PC chairs to consult with the chairs of other conferences when fixing these dates.

There has been some discussion about the role of mentoring chairs at ACL conferences. Given the non-use of this service at EACL-12, it was decided not to have this service for EACL-14.

The EACL Workshop Chairs have begun to consult with the Workshop chairs of the other conferences in 2014 (since the workshops will be coordinated across conferences as in the previous few years).

The General Chair is planning a site visit in the Fall.

Nominations to the ACL Sponsorship Committee

We are pleased to report that Alessandro Moschitti (Information Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Trento) has agreed to take on this role, to join Jochen Leidner (Thomson Reuters).

EACL Sponsorships

The ESSLLI organising committee have nominated three students to be sponsored to attend ESSLLI 2013 (two students from Africa and one from Russia). No objections were raised from the EACL Board, and so these three students will be sponsored in line with EACL policy.

EACL Student Board

Two new members have been elected to the student board: Desmond Elliott (University of Edinburgh School of Informatics) and Douwe Kiela (University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory). Desmond and Douwe will start their terms on July 1 2013, and will replace Konstantina Garoufi and Coskun Mermer.
