2025Q3 Reports: TACL Journal Editor
1. We are delighted to announce the recipients of the inaugural TACL Paper Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions published in Transactions of the ACL. This marks the first time TACL is presenting such awards, and we hope this will become a lasting tradition.
To this end, we assembled a Best Paper Committee chaired by Omri Abend, with committee members Jacob Andreas, Mark Steedman, Kristina Toutanova, and Yulia Tsvetkov. The committee has selected two exceptional papers for recognition:
Test of Time Award (for papers published in 2013–2014) Weakly Supervised Learning of Semantic Parsers for Mapping Instructions to Actions Yoav Artzi and Luke Zettlemoyer
Best Paper Award (for papers published in 2024) Reading Subtext: Evaluating Large Language Models on Short Story Summarization with Writers Melanie Subbiah, Sean Zhang, Lydia B. Chilton, and Kathleen McKeown
These awards will be presented at the ACL 2025 Best Paper Awards session. We congratulate the authors and look forward to continuing this tradition of recognizing impactful TACL research in the years to come.
2. In 2025 we have seen an increase in the number of submissions, compared to previous years. The number of submissions is:
January: 45, February: 52, March: 90, April: 82, May: 70, June: 75.
On average, ~25% were desk rejected on formal grounds (e.g. formatting issues) and ~25% were desk rejected as they were judged by the editorial board to be below TACL standards.
