2025Q3 Reports: SIGTURK
Summary
SIGTURK is the ACL Special Interest Group on Turkic Languages. It is a place of discussion and implementation for all enthusiasts, including students, researchers, academics, industry professionals, and hobbyists, interested in studying the computational and linguistic aspects of Turkic languages and making more publicly available knowledge, methodology and resources for contributing to the field of computational linguistics in Turkic languages.

Conferences, Workshops and Activities
- SIGTURK initially planned the second workshop to be held jointly with EMNLP 2025. Due to the rising political concerns against the Turkic community in the conference location (China), the board decided to postpone the workshop to a future date.
- SIGTURK is the main organizer of The First Workshop on Natural Language Processing for Turkic Languages (SIGTURK 2024), co-located with ACL 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand in August 2024.
Elections
SIGTURK was founded beginning of 2023 by the following officers: president Duygu Ataman, secretary Sardana Ivanova. The same officers served for the 2024 term with minor changes. In February 2025, we held our second election. Kemal Oflazer has been elected as the president, and Gözde Gül Şahin joined as Secretary. Mr. Abdullatif Koksal, Mr. Anar Rzayev, Mr. Jafar Isbarov, Mr. Jonne Saleva and Ms. Necva Bolucu have been elected as officers. The new organization is effective since April 2025.
