The paper submissions this year continues to show rapid increase for 36% to 2895 papers. With EMNLP 2018’s close to 2500 attendees, more than double amount comparing to the attendees at EMNLP 2017, we’d expect a large conference again this year. More information about the conference can be found at https://www.emnlp-ijcnlp2019.org.
SIGDAT, the ACL special interest group on Linguistic data and corpus-based approaches to NLP will hold its annual conference jointly with AFNLP in Hong Kong from November 3rd to November 7th, 2019. EMNLP-IJCNLP 2018 is a 3 day conference preceded with 2 days of workshops and tutorials.
The paper submissions this year continues to show rapid increase for 36% to 2895 papers. With EMNLP 2018’s close to 2500 attendees, more than double amount comparing to the attendees at EMNLP 2017, we’d expect a large conference again this year. More information about the conference can be found at https://www.emnlp-ijcnlp2019.org.

b) EMNLP 2020

EMNLP 2020 will be hold in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (DR) from Nov 8 to Nov 12, 2020 with 2 days of workshops and tutorials following the main conference. We already have the 4 conference chairs on board
•	General Chair, Bonnie Webber (University of Edinburgh, UK)
•	Program Chairs:
o	Trevor Cohn (University of Melbourne, Australian);
o	Yulan He (University of Warwick, UK);
o	Yang Liu (Laix Inc. USA)
DR is the most visited tourist destination in Caribbean with many non-stop flights from EU and NA. The conference will be hold in a mega resort, Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort with very nice view, really extraordinary variety of food. The attendees staying at the resort will be offered an extremely good deal with all meals, all drinks, unlimited resort use free. Definitely plenty of options for pre/post or family travel.

With the two documents on Recommended Conference Scheduling Practice, as well as issues on ACL conference discussed in ACL exe in 2012 passed to ACL 2014 CCC, some issues have been revisited and provide more details to ACL 2014 and / or ACL 2013 organisers, including diverse paper types and corresponding review forms, author registration and attendance, mentoring service. They may be updated again with more discussions at ACL exe.
Some other issues are raised, being discussed in ACL exe this year, including quality of reviewing, anti-harassment policy, Identifiers for language resources, best paper special issue, mobile app for conference proceeding.

For the long-term continuity, Drago raised that a set of guidelines for a number of conference policies are needed, some of which have come up every year. I will give my inputs and discuss them at the coming ACL executive meeting at Sofia, later at ACL 2013, including
1) how many parallel sessions can be allowed;
2) can extra pages be allowed;
3) should the student research workshop be in parallel with regular paper sessions or lunch ;
5) should there be more than one poster session (so that people presenting posters have a chance to see other posters);
6) how many best paper awards should be awarded;
7) how to deal with authors who have time constraints or conflicts and want to present on a particular day;
8) when to schedule the best paper session, when to schedule the LTA session;
They may be classified into different categories: 1) PC chairs decide alone, 2) PC chairs ask the exec/cc, 3) PC chairs cannot change.
All the discussions will be documented and the conclusive portions will be passed to the future conference organizers, which may be revisited with more details and adaptations to the new scenarios.

As a Conference Officer (CO), I've passed two documents to Haifeng, Chair of ACL 2014 CCC, who have further forwarded the documents to ACL 2014 Conference Organizers. One document is about some issues on ACL conference that were discussed in ACL executive committee in 2012, such as diverse paper categories, mathematical linguistic papers, retrospective award, mentoring service and etc. The other is on Recommended Conference Scheduling Practice for ACL conferences, which is a revised version based on the discussions at ACL 2012.
This is to ensure the awareness of the corresponding issues at the earliest stage and allow enough time for the organizers to prepare the activities.

I'm also glad to reach a consensus with Haifeng that I as CO will be a professional helper to pass on updated conference related information and help the organizers on their work, while Haifeng as the chair of CCC will ensure the necessary activities being carried out and make the final decisions on relevant issues.
Besides I'll be involved in the draft proposal reviewing on conference schedule, CFP and other related issues so that I can give inputs timely before the releases.
This'll be easier for the organizers to receive the relevant information, easier for me to perceive the issues encountered by the organizers and easier for the relevant activities being carried out.

I hope an effective process for CO to work on can be established, which can be carried forward to ACL-IJCNLP 2015 in due course as well as to the next CO for the future ACLs.

The above is an elaboration on the Conference Officer role on Jan, 2012 by Kevin Knight (Past president) and Drago (Secretary) to the new Exec member, Jian SU, who is the first Conference Officer appointed in ACL Exec Board.

Since then, various issues have been discussed in ACL Exec board, including mentoring service, mathematical linguistic papers, retrospective award.
