== ORGANIZATION ==

There have been no organizational changes this year. Kevin Cohen and Dina Demner-Fushman continue as chair and secretary.

== WORKSHOP ==

The SIG's major activity has been the organization of the annual workshop. The 2014 workshop was the sixth BioNLP workshop under the auspices of SIGBIOMED and the thirteenth BioNLP workshop held in conjunction with ACL or NAACL. There were about 40-50 participants.

This year's workshop will be held in conjunction with ACL in Beijing and will be one day long.

== FINANCES ==

In addition to organizing the workshop, our other main activity has been in fundraising. We haven’t brought in any funds this year (unlike most recent years), but are currently pursuing one lead.

SIGBIOMED is ACL's special interest group for Biomedical Natural Language Processing. Membership continues to grow and currently stands at 104, same as last year, which was up from 93 the previous year and 84 the year before.

== ORGANIZATION ==

Per the SIG constitution, the second elections since the SIG's formation were held in 2013.
Kevin Cohen and Dina Demner-Fushman were re-elected as chair and secretary.
The issues that came up in the election have been resolved---please see below for more on this.

== WORKSHOP ==

The SIG's major activity has been the organization of the annual workshop. The 2013 workshop was the fifth BioNLP workshop under the auspices of SIGBIOMED and the twelfth BioNLP workshop held in conjunction with ACL or NAACL. There were about 40 participants.

This year's workshop will be two days long, with research papers on the first day and a featured talk, a panel on shared tasks, and two short tutorials the second day.

== FINANCES ==

In addition to organizing the workshop, our other main activity has been in fundraising. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has generously agreed to provide partial funding for publication of the workshop proceedings in a biomedical journal, which is important to our community, since many of us are employed in medical schools, which prefer journal publications over conference proceedings.

BioNLP 2013 will be held in conjunction with the ACL meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria. According to the preregistration statistics, it is roughly the size of a typical workshop. (In other years we have been the largest or second largest on occasion.) This will be the fifth BioNLP workshop under the auspices of SIGBIOMED and the twelfth BioNLP workshop held in conjunction with ACL or NAACL.

This year, for the second time we are holding a two-day workshop, with the second day being devoted to a shared task.

We received generous contributions from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for the SIG shadow account and to fund Open Access publication in a biomedical informatics journal of revised versions of full papers accepted at the workshop. This is an important issue for members of our community, since our primary funding agency values journal publications significantly higher than conference publications.

== ORGANIZATION ==

SIGBIOMED held its first elections in the fall of 2009 and is due to hold elections again next fall, per the SIG constitution.

== WORKSHOP ==

The SIG's major activity has been the organization of the annual workshop. BioNLP 2011 will be held in conjunction with the ACL meeting in Portland. According to the preregistration statistics, it will be the second-largest workshop, second only to CoNLL. This will be the third BioNLP workshop under the auspices of SIGBIOMED and the tenth BioNLP workshop held in conjunction with ACL or NAACL. The workshop received 31 submissions this year and accepted eleven as papers and fourteen as posters.

== FINANCES ==

We received $1,000 in contributions this year. As was the case last year, we are attempting to resolve discrepancies in the report from the Treasurer.

SIGBIOMED is ACL's special interest group for Biomedical Natural Language Processing. Membership currently stands at 84, up from 39 initial members.

==ORGANIZATION==

SIGBIOMED held its first elections in the fall of 2009. The former chair pro tem and secretary pro tem were elected to office for a three-year period, per the SIG constitution.

==WORKSHOP==

The SIG's major activity has been the organization of the annual workshop. BioNLP 2010 will be held in conjunction with the ACL meeting in Uppsala. It will be the second BioNLP workshop under the auspices of SIGBIOMED and the ninth BioNLP workshop held in conjunction with ACL conferences. The workshop received 34 submissions and had an acceptance rate of 26%.

We are currently attempting to resolve discrepancies in the report from the Treasurer.
