You will interact closely with the project’s clinical experts in understanding subjects and relevant healthcare-related dialogue, with users to help guide and evaluate research & development, with Vision researchers to enhance contextual understanding, with Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) experts to improve ASR with semantic context, with a Natural Language Generation researcher to inform the spoken dialogue using deeper semantics, and with mechantronics researchers to ensure contextually appropriate emotive output. The project will involve significant bidirectional interaction between these constituents and their associated system components.

This position is available immediately and is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Four positions in folktale analysis, classification and clustering

Applications are invited for two PhD-students, a post-doc researcher, and a scientific programmer. They will work on the automatic analysis, classification and clustering of Dutch folktales in a collaborative project within The Netherlands. The first PhD will work as part of the Tunes & Tales project, funded under the Computational Humanities programme of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The others will work in the FACT project (Folktales As Classifiable Texts), funded under the CATCH programme of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Both are multidisciplinary research projects involving collaboration between computer science and humanities researchers. Because the research is focused on Dutch folktales, we expect the PhD-students and the postdoc to have at least passive knowledge of the Dutch language. 1) The first PhD-student will work on the automatic detection of motifs in folktales, in the context of a project that investigates sequences of motifs in melodies as well as folktales, and their variability in oral transmission. The PARLANCE project will design and build mobile applications that approach human performance in conversational spoken interaction, targeting interactive search and information provision applications. Work will focus on incremental models of spoken language understanding which integrate domain-general statistical models of syntactic-semantic parsing, as well as open-domain information extraction. Educational Testing Service has an opening for a Senior Research Assistant position in the Applied Research and Development Group.
