Young Researchers Symposium on Natural Language Processing (YRSNLP)
December 10, 2016 (one day prior to Coling 2016 workshops/tutorials)
The Osaka International Convention Center (OICC), Japan
https://sites.google.com/site/yrsnlp2016/

We are excited to organize YRSNLP, the first international symposium for young researchers working on Natural Language Processing (NLP). The goal of this symposium is not only to present and discuss their studies but also to stimulate new ideas, encourage networking, and enhance their activities. YRSNLP is an official satellite event of Coling 2016, approved by the International Committee on Computational Linguistics (ICCL). Do not forget to travel one day prior to Coling 2016 to meet NLPers at this event!

Dinner
We are planning to hold a dinner event after the symposium. The event features Takoyaki, a ball-shaped pancake with octopus and vegetables, Osaka's representative local food (no worry if you do not like octopus; you could customize your own pieces by avoiding octopus, adding your favorite ingredients, changing source, etc.). Because the seats for the dinner event are limited, please book your seat on the registration form.

The registration fee for the symposium is free, but all participants are required to register the main conference of Coling 2016.

FAQ

Who are "young" researchers?
We basically expect that YRSNLP will provide networking opportunity especially for master/doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and assistant professors. But we welcome the attendance of every researcher regardless of their age!

Is it possible to attend this symposium without attending Coling 2016?
No. It is mandatory to register Coling 2016 for attending this symposium.

I have a registration for Coling 2016. Is it possible to attend this symposium without registration of YRSNLP?
Anyone (who has a registration for the main conference of Coling 2016) can attend the YRSNLP 2016 symposium, but we appreciate your registration here in order to estimate the number of participants and to provide better facilities at the symposium.

How can I obtain a VISA for this symposium?
We do not provide any assistance for obtaining a VISA for attending this symposium. Please obtain an invitation letter from Coling 2016.

Is it necessary to submit a paper to attend this symposium as a speaker?
No. Anyone who has a valid registration for Coling 2016 can attend this symposium as a speaker by submitting a title and abstract of their talk.

Is this a refereed symposium?
No. We do not review a submission for this symposium. However, we may reject submissions for some uncontrollable reasons: for example, when a submission focuses on a too irrelevant topic, or when we receive too many submissions.

Will YRSNLP publish proceedings for the symposium?
No. We only publish a program of the symposium. This ensures that a presentation at this symposium will not be regarded as a prior nor duplicated submission with other conferences/workshops/symposiums.

Organization
YRSNLP 2016 is organized by Young Researcher Association for NLP Studies (YANS), which is an association for young researchers working on natural language processing and computational linguistics in Japan. Since 2006, the association has held its annual conference, YANS symposium, eleven times with a goal of encouraging the networking among the young researchers and enhancing their activities.
