CALL FOR DEMONSTRATIONS

Note that this CFP has been revised as of 02/21/2003. Please read it carefully.

Demonstrations of Human Language Technology at HLT-NAACL 03 are encouraged, and are expected to provide an enriching complement to the paper and poster presentations. We currently expect that most demonstrations will be presented using a "science fair" approach, where a number of demonstrations will be set up and run simultaneously in a suitable room. In addition, for a small number of especially interesting and polished demonstrations, there will be a plenary, presentation-style demo session.

Two volumes of proceedings will be produced; one for full papers and a another for short papers (late-breaking results), posters, and demonstration descriptions.

Requirements: Submissions must describe existing demonstrations and should include a description of the application, overall system architecture, discussion of novel technical components, and performance assessment. Submission of a demonstration abstract on a particular topic does not preclude or require a separate submission of a paper on that topic; it is possible that some but not all of the demonstrations will illustrate concepts that are described in companion papers. For a list of topics, see the call for full papers.

Format: Submissions must be electronic and in PDF, should not exceed two (2) pages (including references), Submissions should include author names and affiliations, and reviewing is not blind. Submission must follow the HLT-NAACL formatting guidelines for camera-ready copies, available on the website. Submissions must be in camera-ready format; see www.hlt-naacl03.org/format.html. Submissions that are not in PDF or are incorrectly formatted may be rejected on that basis.

Images and Video Clips: Proposers are encouraged to include a screen shot or other illustrative figure. For reviewing purposes, authors may supply a hyperlink to images or to video clips illustrating a component of the demo. The online submissions system will allow specification of a URL for images and demonstration clips. To include more than one image or clip, create a special web page that has links only to these images and clips (do not make the reviewers look through a web page that contains other information as well). Images and video clips from some accepted demos will be included in the CD-ROM version of the proceedings.

Reviewing: Reviewing of demos will not be blind. The reviewers will be asked to assess demos in terms of the technical merit and novel aspects of the technology behind the demonstration, as well as relevance to HLT interest areas.

Procedure: Submissions will be made via the HLT-NAACL website. Reviewing will be done via email.

Demo Logistics: Demonstration presenters will need to bring their own hardware, and will be asked to provide information as to their requirements for table space, power, telephone lines, internet connections, and other logistics.

DUE DATE

Note new deadline date for demos.

Proposals for Demonstrations are due on March 20, 2003.
